An empty BC trolley coming around the loop at Park Street derailed this evening. No injuries. Service is continuing, but with only one track in use, instead of the usual two, expect delays.

Crammed commuter-rail platform at Porter Square in Cambridge

Michael Doyle is among the scores (hundreds? thousands?) of Fitchburg Line riders forced to deboard prematurely at Porter Square this evening due to either some sort of switch problem between there and Belmont or a train that gave up the ghost, depending on which MBTA alert one chooses to read.

Regardless of the reason, "no outbound train has left Porter in 90 minutes," Saul Blumenthal reports.

State officials shut the Silver Line tunnel in the waterfront area today after "loose pieces of concrete" fell from the ceiling at the World Trade Center station onto the inbound platform. MassDOT blames "ongoing construction activity on Congress Street" right near the station. Read more.

The MBTA reports an inbound Riverside Line has a "power problem" at Newton Centre, which is causing 20-25 minute delays.

The MBTA this week added some additional buses on weekday mornings to to the 16, 19, 31, 32, 65, 70, 104, 109 and 455 routes.

The 109, 117 and 455 routes get some extra service on Saturday mornings; the 31, 109 and 455 on Sundays.

A motor on a Red Line car at Park Street began to smoke this morning, but the T assures us that "station fans have been activated to alleviate any smoke in the station."

Transit Police report the driver of a 44 bus didn't stop for a flashing red light at Columbus Avenue and Washington Street around 5:45 a.m. and ran into a BPS school bus already in the intersection. Read more.

Smokey State Street

Wolf was on hand shortly before 2:30 p.m. when something on the tracks at the State Street Orange Line stop began to smoke - and a T worker quickly doused it. Read more.

MassDOT reports the T will be boosting service on all four subway lines tomorrow during the March for Our Lives, which starts at 11 a.m. at Madison Park High School and ends with a rally on Boston Common. Read more.

Bojack Horseman on the Red Line

Kyle P. was minding his own business as he took the Red Line into town. Then he looked up and noticed there, in the next car, Bojack Horseman. Horseman got off at Downtown Crossing, he reports.

Crowded Red Line train

A train died at JFK/UMass as rush hour started this morning, causing delays and, as JohnMcBoston shows us, trains with no more room for additional passengers like him.

At 7 a.m., the MBTA reported a track fire on the Red Line at South Station was causing major delays - about a half hour after a deceased train at Park Street caused its own set of issues.

The Chelsea Record reports the MBTA has sprung for money to buy some software that will let the operator of the Chelsea Street Bridge give the T a head's up when the bridge is about to be lifted to let boats through - so the T can re-route the new Silver Line buses on detour routes, rather than just sitting waiting for the bridge to come down.

The T plans to start up the Silver Line extension between Chelsea and Logan Airport on April 21. The route mostly uses a recycled railroad right of way - but includes travel over the bridge, the center section of which is lifted for the tankers that traverse Chelsea Creek.

There's an outbound D trolley with a wire problem gumming up the works at Boylston. Boston firefighters went into the tunnel to help evacuate passengers.

The T has resorted to urging riders to get on the Orange Line for downtown stops.
