John Tobin for mayor?

Riding a wave of public disgust over the lack of drug testing for firefighters? David Bernstein thinks it's possible.

Please, blaming the Mayor? Take a look at the stronghold the Unions have on our City and State government. The Unions are the ones who fight the drug testing.

The Big Dig cost overruns... Unions
Falling Ceiling Panels... Unions
Mass Pike Toll Workers... Unions
Inept T Employees... Unions
Firefighters Not Being Drug Tested... Unions

If John Tobin has the power to get rid of all of the Union interference he will get my vote until then this is just plain silly to even discuss in light of this scenario

Yeah Susa, why should working people have any advocacy, or ability to negotiate working conditions with employers? I say let employers have their way the people. Everybody knows from reading the Herald that all city workers are scum, suckling on the public teet. Besides, Massachusettes and Boston especially are some of the easiest places for middle class people to raise a family, what with all the afordable housing and low taxes. I say let's show those mafia communist bastards the way out. Let's become a right to work state, and maybe someday our standard of living will be as good as Arkansas or Louisana.

P.S. What union was responsible for the falling ceiling tiles exactly? Wasn't that some contractor cutting corners on inspections to preserve the bottom line?

Making us all work only forty hour week. Damn unions. What is this, France? Voulais-vous de pommes frites avec ca?

And who needs a stinking weekend, anyway? The unions can put that dumb idea back where they found it. And what about those poor, ambitious children who really want to work? Child labor laws are sooo unfair to young people with drive!

Paid sick leave, overtiem payseverance, family and medical leave, it's all a damn union commie conspiracy to make us all fat and lazy, taking away what's rightfully not ours from our bosses.

Yeah, them union scum have got us all in a lock, preventing us from working as we oughta be able to - a hundred hours a week, no weekends or holidays, from as young as we can stand up until the day we fall dead. It's a fackin' conspiracy!

Obviously Unions were a wonderful thing in the last century but there is a reason a lot of jobs are being outsourced to other countries. The unions are scaring off the big corporations. I was in a union back when I was an admin. I was part of some strange union. I paid dues, never was invited to attend a meeting, did not even have a union steward (that I knew of). I asked about it as was told to just pay the money and appreciate my 2 weeks of vacation time. That is a standard now, big whoop. It really bothered me that was I was an admin making low $20s and was paying a chunk of money to some union that I was not allowed to be an active member of.

But, that being said, I agree that the unions and not the mayor are the ones who fight the random drug testing.

"Unions were a wonderful thing in the last century..but

Idiot. Our jobs are being outsourced to other countries because
our employers are selfish, greedy bastards. And our political
"leaders" are bought and paid for by the same corporations,
and are complicit in the crime. (See Deval Patrick's support
for additional H1B's for foreign tech workers/servants.)

If you were part of "some strange union" that you don't even
know the name of, and "did not even have a union steward
(that I knew of)" then you're a moron for paying the dues
without doing the bare minimum amount of work to find out
where it was going and how you could have an impact on
how it was being spent.

Your ignorance is self-indictment, not proof of your point.
