The Universal Hub Thanksgiving Dinner

Sad to say, I don't have a kitchen this Thanksgiving. We're ripping out the walls and ceiling of the now-empty room where it stood. I don't even own an oven! So instead of my usual 24-hour cookathon, I'd like to host a Vitual Thanksging this year on Universal Hub.

I hear that there are fresh turkeys to be had in Brookline (as a public service of course!). I'll start with that. I usually cut the skin in places and shove in garlics. Then I annoint the beast with a mix of melted butter, sage, old bay, and gravy master. Stuffing contains the usual things, with some onions for flavor and water chestnuts for crunch. Sometimes, bacon or chicken sausage gets tossed in too.

Just isn't Thanksgiving without the spuds. I'll even mash 'em myself - if only because that way I get to lick the spoon.

We are build to a serious pie conclusion. I'd bring pies. This is where there guest list is important. It's fine to have guests who are witty or pretty or both, but choosing one who can make and bring a great pie is much more satisfying.

The Buttermilk pie sounds interesting--and different.

Just one question: Are pies, such as chocolate cream pie, blackbottom pie, etc., not considered "Thanksgiving" enough?

I think any pies are...but cakes are flat out. Our pies all come from our memories of our Southern family tables. Because of the background, many of us got extra chuckles out of Twin Peaks when Agent Cooper would fairly shout, "Damn good pie!"

My family and I attended a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner this afternoon at the lovely condominium of some people in Boston's South End. In addition to a scrumptious Thanksgiving turkey dinner, with all the works, there were three kinds of cake to choose from for dessert: Carrot cake, vanilla cake, and...a chocolate pound cake with rich, semi-sweet chocolate glaze that I'd made out of scratch and brought for the occasion.

We all had wonderful fun.

It's quite odd being out of the country on Thanksgiving. I think I'm going shopping for something reselmbing a t-day dinner tonight.
