Can't we just ban the banning of things? If we banned the banners from banning, I think we'd all be happy!

The poor things, they have no power and no vision, so all they are left with is proposing meaningless things like this.

It is already illegal to use a roof for these purposes unless they have roofs that meet the requirments of the building department.

You don't need to ban sun bathing to stop people from playing soccer games on roofs. Its already against the law!

City Council make my head go "ouch"

On the one hand, it can be fun to have barbecues, dancing parties or whatever on the rooftops, but yet I think that the idea of playing full-scale soccer or other ball games or having really wild, drunken parties on rooftops is a recipe for disaster, imho.

First of all, the average apartment building rooftop is probably way too fragile for soccer-playing, and, without something such as a wall or sturdy iron railing on the rooftop to prevent these kind of horrific falls from happening while students are partying, dangers can and do abound.

Maybe what the city should do is to consider having iron railings or half-sized walls built on the rooftops of apartment buiildings to prevent disasters from happening.

Imagine what a pain in the neck it would be to have to run down three flights of stairs to get that botched header.

The proposed ordinance...would ban people from rooftops unless they’re on a permitted roof deck

Ten bucks says this ends up accidentally making it illegal to build a permitted roof deck.

Instead of spending their energy in tryin to Ban rooftops - the city should spend their energy in finding out what REALLY happened up there that night.

Sounds like the politicians is trying to get pointers with the public by suggesting banning and try to put band-aid on this tragedy. They need to look into what caused Shawn to fall in the first place.

I COMPLETELY agree. I know almost everyone who was there that night, and the "wild, drunken" party was actually about 20 kids who were just hanging INSIDE until crashers came and ruined it. There were barely any people on the roof that night. So no one understands how this could have happened and I can't believe that the city is dropping this case so quickly.

AGREED!

None of this fits together. We all want to know what really happened that night. There are SO many questions left unanswered.

This case CANNOT and WILL NOT be dropped and just dismissed as "accidental" with so many gaps in the case.

Rest in peace, Shawn. We all miss you down here. Come visit, will ya?

The City Council is taking this up Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. You have good arguments against this move. Bring them to City Hall.

Here is a link to the text of the proposal:

Hope to see some of you there.

First off let me start by saying that Shawn was my cousin. Secondly, I'd like to say that the way this case is being carried out gives us, as the family, no hope that we will ever know what happened that night. Which is hard to deal with at times. It is coming up on the one month marker and I would really like some answers instead of 'accidental' and all this bullshit from people who have no compassion for anyone but themselves.

I miss you Shawn.
