Green Line hell

What are the odds that on the last Saturday before Christmas, there'd be more people than usual taking the Green Line from the T stop nearest the Cambridgeside Galleria? If you're a T manager, you apparently think "Oh, light travel day, let's just run single cars!" Cleary Squared recounts the last-train-out-of-Paris scene:

... No matter what car came forward, it was filled to capacity within seconds. And, like flies to a steaming pile of horseshit, whenever an empty car came forward, the sea of humanity followed, hoping to lay its maggot egg-like asses onto a seat. ....

...but last night's commute was one that warranted cleansing, cathartic dirty words. The rest of this week should, fingers crossed, be a little quieter, because it's school vacation week and no one's working.

I have to give credit to the inspector and drivers though, making the best of a bad situation. Unfortunately, train/bus shortages and reroutes are now becoming more and more common, and in the end, it harms both the passengers (who will resist further fare increases) and the MBTA (who will suffer from lower fare revenues OR get accused of intentionally making shortages to increase revenues).

Again, if I've offended anyone with my language, I am sorry.

The E Line is the least-loved of all of the MBTA's rapid transit branches. (I would say Phase I of the Silver Line if that was actually "rapid transit" in any sense of the term)

You get the impression that if it wasn't for Northeastern University and the VA Hospital, they'd scrap it entirely. "Bare minimum" is usually an understatement for the condition of service on the line, and unfortunately for Cambridgeside shoppers, the E is the only one that serves Lechmere.

That being said, Government Center actually has two separate Green Line stations. Brattle being a mostly-neglected platform that can be used to run trains from Lechmere to GC and back again to take some of the strain off the far end of the line and keep things running.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if maybe there were one or two LESS stories about the MBTA on Universal Hub, in 2008?

Frankly, I think that the MBTA stores, as gritty and grisly as they often enough are, make for fascinating reading, and help give this blog the character that it has. Also, I think that these stories should be told so that if enough people become aware of the chronic problems on t he MBTA (of which there are many), the people who run the MBTA system
just might hopefully improve it someday.

... you can submit your own content and it won't be about the T.
