Maybe Boston firefighters should be pushing for free Avodart

Boston fire test will be voided:

State civil service officials will scrap the results of a Boston firefighter promotional exam after an investigation of cheating allegations showed that numerous firefighters talked during the test, brought cellphones into the testing room, and took unusually frequent trips to the men's room, say two public officials briefed on the probe results. ...

Let's not forget police have exam issues, too.

These guys continue to impress. First the horror show at
the Tai Ho fire, where one Jake was coked up and the other had just rolled into the firehouse drunk from a cookout.

Then the Clown Prince Ed Kelly aka Fred Flinstone fights the City on mandatory drug testing and makes the Union look bad and lose goodwill every time he opens his inept mouth.

Now we have the Jakes up for promotion cheating on the exam.

No real surprise there. The Police detective exam went down the same way. These guys are a real pleasure to have on the city payroll. I hope they all put on a great show in Southie on St. Paddy's Day when they are in their dress blues drunk along the Parade Route.

Dsgraceful.

How many Fireman took the rock star status that they were awarded after 9/11 and went right down the tubes?

It's nice you have this forum to beat up on guys who can't defend themselves. The guys died from an explosion. Was there anything in their blood? Show it to me. You can't because you haven't seen it and neither have I. All your going on is illegally leaked reports, which are suspect due to the way they have been handled. Unfortunately the truth will never be known. No one will trust any results from a report because they will make it look any way they want. The bottom line is if you and I were in the same spot at the same time as those two, we would be dead.

Read the article, Ned Devine. Nothing was proven, just alleged. They dumped the test on nothing more than unsubstantiated rumor. I feel bad for those that took it and studied hard.

Umm... nothing was proven because none of the firefighters would help with the investigation (i.e. they stonewalled to protect their union brothers). Such upstanding citizens.

I'm sure if they had the power to subpoena their phone records it would have been a much different story.

The article was BS, they only interviewed 80 percent of the aplicants, and I was one of them, I offered my cell phone records as did the 20-30 other aplicants that I work with that took the test. The Civil Service administration stated in the Globe "no cooperation" BS, they just don't want this to come back on their proctors who aparently did not do THEIR JOB! It is much easier to make the firefighters look bad, big surprise. By the way, the only people in the exam rooms are the proctor and the firefighters taking the test, which would rule out the proctor becuase they should have stopped the inapropriate behavior when they saw it, which leaves the firefighters, so in response to the "cover up," this shows that SOME FIREFIGHTER REPORTED OTHER FIREFIGHTERS oh wait, that could not be!!! that would show integrity and honesty!! We all know that it is a better story for us all to be a bunch of drunk stoned greedy cheats. Most people study 1000 or more hours for this highly competitive exam, we dont want cheeters getting the job they don't deserve. Not to mention the material that you learn is necessary for you to be a successful fire officer. This is a disgrace, not because of the reported cheating, because the few bad apples will never face their music!

It's a shame you'll have to take the test again, but what's the alternative?

You're absolutely right. A few bad apples have spoiled it for you. Hopefully those bad apples will fail next time. Maybe they'll get smarter. Who knows..? But, retaking the test is the only option since people didn't come forward and I hope there are a lot of watching eyes at this test.

The alternative: release the scores. Those that passed will need to submit their cell phone records, or forfeit their score. Pretty simple (I don't even know if I passed the test) but i still have nothing to hide. The average fireifghter studies in the excess of 1000 hours and gives up a whole year with their family. Most plan vacations (Disney etc.) to spend some much deserved time with their family after the sacrifce they all made for a year or better. This is not something that we take lightly! The bad apples need to be weeded out, not given a second chance! Thanks for your support Green Street.
