Firefighters to Eastie, Southie: YOU'RE GOING TO DIE AND IT'S ALL MENINO'S FAULT!

Nothing like a little fear, surprise and the comfy chair to liven up the contract talks. But how come the firefighters local isn't warning Charlestown about how Tom Menino wants to incinerate them in a blinding ball of LNG death flame?

Dear Boston Herald: You're getting carried away with this "jakes" thing. Jakes, jakes, jakes. Jakes on a rake. Jakes in a quake. Jakes with a snake. Jakes eat a steak. Jakes eat a snake. Yeah, it fits in a headline, but land's sake!

“With Mayor Menino in charge,” the fliers read, firefighters who would respond to an LNG tanker incident lack a “professional disaster analysis,” safety protocols, response and rescue planning, updated equipment and a reliable fireboat.

Duuude, that would be one giant fireball. Hey, have you ever really looked at your hands?

Then they realized that nobody much would be left to respond to the big tsunami-washed hole, and grabbed the weed to not think about it further.

It would be very good odds that Mumbles would be tumbled if this went down ... or is that up ... too.

The firefighters union has never offered a contract or responded to any of the more than six contracts offered by the city.

It seems like Ed Kelly just wants to complain, complain and complain, but refuses to negotiate. He complains about not having a fire boat, which they do; and that they don't have new firetrucks, which they've gotten. And he complains that the media and Menino are out to get him because the media writes about exam-cheating firefighters and drug-abusing firefighters.

When will he step up to the plate and do what's best for his union? Either hash out a contract or step down because he obviously does not have leadership skills.

Before regurgitating what you read in the paper or see on TV, you should get the facts. There was back and forth on the contract. Written responses and counterproposals were exchanged by both parties. Secondly, where is Ed Kelly complaining "that the media and Menino are out to get him". He is simply putting forth the truth. Once allegations reach the media, they take the ball and run. It's their job to sell papers, advertising space and adverising time on TV. They are making a buck on allegations, inuendo and speculation. Since the first report of the toxicology results, who in the media has seen them? Nobody. Yet they coninue to say "It has been reported that........" Easy way of avoiding responsible journalism and making their money. If you asked Ed himself or listened to the actual words he speaks or read the words he writes, you would find that he is simply fighting for due process on all issues. He did not claim there was no cheating. He wanted those who were found to have not cheated to be able to have their scores stand. He doesn't want the alleged drug use to soil the reputation of the other 1500 upstanding memebers. He is doing a commendable job given the skewed media reports. Ed will not step down and will continue to fight for safe working conditions, responsible training initiatives, adequate equipment and comparable contracts with the Police and EMS.

Yes, the firefighters have offered a contract. You seem to be regurgitating stuff that you read and not the truth.

Ed's responsibility is to fight for adequate equipment. How many new fire boats are there? What is the condition of the old ones? How many new fire trucks are there? What is the condition of the old ones that are counted on to perform life safety functions? And he doesn't complain about the media. He simply states the facts. The fact that nobody has seen the toxicology reports yet the media still reports the results as if they saw them. The fact that alleged drug abuse is not a standard in the BFD. The fact that the alleged cheating should not affect anyone proven to be not involved.

Ed Kelly will not and should not step down. He's doing his level best to represent his members in a decidedly anti-union, anti-firefighter atmosphere. If he were to step down, his replacement would inherit the same anti-union, anti-firefighter atmosphere.

What is that like?

"Get out of our neighborhoods with your red lights and sirens! Your kind isn't welcome here, you JAKES! If there's a fire? I'll spit on it, just like I spit on you!"

Give me a break.

Can you please come up with something to say that is constructive, or at least something worth debating. Sticks and stones may brake my bones but names will never hurt me.

Here you go, boyo:

Think before you type something as stupid as "anti-firefighter".

"Sticks and stones may brake my bones" but homophones will confuse me?

He drove the Jakes from Ireland, so that they could help fight fires here! :-)
