A couple of years ago, the Peabody-Essex Museum (which is neither in Peabody or Essex, but in Salem,MA) exhibited a number of paintings by the artist named Giuseppe Castiglione who lived from 1688 until 1766, and was a Jesuit missionary to China. (There's a later painter named Giuseppe Castiglione, who never assumed a missionary position, or maybe he did), but I've never seen any of his work. Anyway, I'd like to register a very favorable opinion abut this "Joe" Castiglione.
