There is definitely something up with that intersection. Not sure if it's just super-aggressive drivers or horrible timing on the intersection lights, but I've seen at least 3 really bad accidents there in the past few years. I'm talking cars upside down or on their sides pushed into those medians.

And if you ever bike through there like I do you can't miss the various car parts and glass scattered around that intersection from various collisions. Not sure if there is any way to find stats on this, but my feeling is that it's definitely a hot spot in the city for accidents.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to turn it back into the rotary that it once was?

The redesign of Audubon Circle (the Beacon Street/ Park Drive intersection) is part of a BTD Fenway-Longwood-Kenmore traffic project that's now in analysis and design stage, to occur more-or-less simultaneous with the Army Corps' daylighting of the Muddy River through the Sears Rotary. (Yes, it's still called that, despite the Landmarkification of everything else in sight down there.)

Other phases of the project include a much-needed re-jiggering of the Riverway/ Park Drive/ Fenway/ Boylston St/ Brookline Ave conglomeration, an off-street bikeway/walkway along the MBTA right-of-way between the Riverway and Kenmore Sq, traffic calming strategies within the Fenway residential neighborhood and a bunch of other roadway/ pedestrian/ bicycle-type improvements.
