Grave situation at Forest Hills Cemetery
By adamg on Fri, 08/15/2008 - 10:03am
Mike Ball reports somebody is stealing sculptures and urns from Forest Hills Cemtery:
... You'd suppose trying to fence two very distinctive and well-known public sculptures will end up tripping up the thieves. I hope so and I bet the cemetery (and likely its insurance company) are working that angle too ...
The Globe reports officials fear the sculptures will simply be sold for scrap.

Has anyone contacted the scrap metal companies in Boston
The thugs who did this are probably looking for quick cash. There aren't too many scrap metal companies around Boston. A few phone calls and some reward money for id'ing the culprits ought to put them on the eager lookout.
Maybe not scrap
I heard this morning that previous thefts years ago ended up at an antique dealer not too far away. Those were recovered. If these thieves do the same, there's a shot at getting them back. As Gibran's works are one-offs and not castings, that's super-important.
FH has been great about being an outdoor art gallery though. I'd hate to think even the stuff bolted down is not safe. I've gotten real used to the sculpture.
Policing the scrap yards is
Policing the scrap yards is the best way to find these creeps and prevent more of the same. They should shut the cemetery down to motor traffic completely and require that everyone walk in.
