Recycling is picking up in West Roxbury

After a couple months with his new Julio-Lugo-sized recycling dumpsterette, Ed Copp reports he is, in fact, recycling more - just like the city hoped he would:

... Looking back I see why I didn't recycle more. The old bins didn't fit too much. Three days after trash pickup the bin was full so the rest of my recyclables went in the trash. ...

Even though large parts of Roslindale now have them, we don't, probably because we're a couple blocks into the "Hyde Park" DPW zone, or whatever they call it, unlike everybody on Beech Street right up to Poplar, who are part of the luckier West Roxbury zone.

And we could really use one, now that our recycling guys show up sometimes at 8 a.m., which is just too goshdarned early for people like me who are used to putting the recycling out on the way to work, instead of the night before.

You would think there would be some sort of happy medium between giant bins and little buckets. Id say something about half the size of a normal garbage can would be just about the right unit of measurement.

As someone who uses this size bin, its the perfect size.

You should be sending out more recycling in a week then trash.

I live in an apartment in a house on a hill. There are lots of steps between the yard and the ground (same with all my neighbors.) If I got stuck with a bin that big I wouldnt be able to use it... I dont live in Boston so Im sure it wont be a problem for a while, but I wonder how many people in Boston live on hills like I do.

You can get one delivered by calling public works - if you live in one of the pilot areas.
