Another reason to dislike Mel Gibson

What could possibly go wrong when a film crew sets up shop at the Weston toll plaza during morning rush hour - especially when turnpike crews are already there doing some lane reconfiguring? Try a westbound traffic jam from Weston to Newton Corner.

Turnpike mouthpiece Mac Daniel at least had the decency to apologize for this, ah, clustertruck:

... In hindsight, we should not have allowed the filming to take place during the morning rush hour. In addition, work reconfiguring the lanes at the Weston interchange compounded the problem and should have been stopped when the backups began. Again, apologies all around. It won't happen again.

If the asshats running the Pike have to rely on hindsight to understand the implications of a major production at such a major toll plaza during a major traffic rush, I say we need a hell of a lot of new asshats.

Its the folks who think shooting more movies here is a good idea. Its also been screwing up the pike when they shoot at South Station during the morning rush. The exit off the Pike was backed up to Clarendon Street the other day and it was slow all the way back to Newton. My commute from Brighton took 90 minutes.

Why would shooting a movie in a railroad (or subway) station affect traffic on the Pike?

it clogged up the South, Lincoln and Atlantic area with trucks, police, onlookers, gawkers, etc. They were shooting outside the station...you know the part of the station with those road thingys nearby that are part of a larger network that includes an exit ramp from the Pike. Getting off the "South Station" Pike exit was VERY slow.

Usually when Exit 17 slows down towards Watertown, that means there's an accident in the rotary or down towards the Weston tolls. After I read the reason why, I now understand.
