Crate & Barrel, Linens & Things, Bath & Beyond!
Don't they all sell the same Chinese-made junk? So this essentially already happened, they just have different branding.
You forgot Bowl & Board

Never heard of them! Interesting...
I went to their website and got this:
So hopefully they'll fix that soon. :)

Bowl & Board. They used to be next to the other Cambridge Crate & Barrel store, the one that's staying open. I'd joke that they should change the name of that intersection to "& Square".

That's a good name, although I used to call that stretch of Mass Av. btw Harvard and Central "The Futon District." And we did indeed get our futon at the store that used to be next to the Y which is now a real estate office. At least the futon is still in great shape.
Futon district!

It's perfect. Can't believe I never thought of it.
I just tried the term out, and the location was immediately identified by 100% of my sample group (n=1butwedontneedtotalkaboutthat). Futon district it is henceforth.

Hey, at least Bowl & Board is a Mass company. I doubt the products are all local or even American, but since it's a smaller company I'd wager the probability of domestic products is higher.
Cool company, thanks for mentioning :)

I always thought Bowl & Board's stuff was better quality as well as being more down to earth compared to Crate & Barrel's trendy designs.
better than crap

While Linens & Things and Bath & Beyond sell mostly over-priced Chinese made crap, Crate & Barrel's over-priced merchandise is a bit better and isn't the 'as seen on TV' junk. Regardless, it would be nice to see a non-chain store in that Brattle Sq. space.

That space is full of empty space too, its not very efficient. It would need to be a high end establishment that could afford to spend money on square footage they actually cant use.
The system works!

Clearly, my unannounced boycott of Crate & Barrel has had its desired effect.
Every holiday season for the past few decades, I'd give up my diet, and buy boxes upon boxes of Java Bark at Crate & Barrel. Words can't quite capture the joy of Java Bark, but try to imagine: Creamy chocolate, flecked with cookie bits and ground espresso beans, topped with streaks of icing.
When I brought a tin to meetings, it moved quickly. (We would start moving quickly as well.) I once hoarded ten tins of it to last the rest of the year.
Two years ago, I heard from a friend I hadn't talked to in seven years. He wanted to know two things: 1) How was I? 2) What was that chocolate coffee stuff I used to bring to work?
Sadly, Crate & Barrel decided that year not to bring Java Bark back. Peppermint Bark? Sure. Gingerbread bark? We've got plenty. But Java Bark? No sir.
Since then, I have been refusing to buy any Java Bark from Crate & Barrels that didn't have Java Bark. And lo, how the mighty have fallen.
They'll rue the day I didn't step foot in the store. Rue, I say. Rue rue. This is kinda fun. Rooooooooooo...

Who knew that your choice not to buy nonexistent items would have such an effect?

What I was told this summer by a Crate staffer is that the Brattle location would close and the C&B furniture store closer to Central Square was to become a CB2.
