Some people just aren't cut out to be bank robbers

A Dorchester man was sentenced to eight years in federal prison earlier this month for two failed bank robberies downtown, the FBI reports.

Scott Backus, 46, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to charges he tried to hold up two Citizens Bank branches, one on Franklin Street and one on State Street, on Oct. 30, 2007, according to his indictment.

According to the FBI, when he gave a teller at one of the banks a stickup note and she didn't respond immediately, he simply walked out:

Backus then went to another Citizens Bank in downtown area and again attempted to rob the bank by passing a note, and again walked out without money. Federal investigative agents were leaving the first bank, on their way to investigate the robbery attempt at the second bank, when they witnessed Backus walking toward them.
