Nervous blame deflecting before graduation
This is Harvard, where they have had problems with redundant student groups, because too many people want to be leaders... :)
Now would be an especially bad time for a senior to be a blamee.
If you're about to graduate from Harvard, intending to work your class ring for career networking for years to come, I imagine that you really don't want your last public act at Harvard to be considered a screw-up.
Same thing, if you're going to a job or internship, to an MBA program, or whatever, and you know they're going to Google you and see whatever the student paper reporter who's interviewing you is going to write.
I don't think this mess-up is that big of a deal, but I could see how people get nervous when they think about the implications for their fresh career images.
Shields up!
Seriously?
