'Trail of hate' painted over in Dorchester

The Dorchester Reporter reports state workers spent this morning painting over anti-black and anti-gay graffiti and swastikas somebody sprayed along the Neponset Greenway over the weekend:

... "The whole wall down there had graffiti all over it. One of the murals down there had nothing but swastikas on it. They demolished the mural there. We had to wipe it out because it looked so bad," said Stephens.

Who the hell tags over neighborhood art? Racist jackasses, apparently. Those BNAN murals are awesome, and I think a lot of them were done by Boston schoolkids.

All it takes is one asshole to screw it up for everybody.

And the racist, homophobic stuff just adds to it. If I had my way, anyone caught tagging would be made to LICK his/her "artwork" off whatever surface they put it on.

For me it depends both on the material and where it is. It's hard for me to get worked up about graffiti on some industrial concrete monstrosity, especially if the graffiti is artistic and nothing was there before. A Boston Banksy would be welcome as far as I'm concerned.

This, on the other hand, no. Find them, make them clean it up, and send 'em packing.

So you decide on what's a monstrosity and what's not? Arrrrgh! Another graffiti apologist! Would that include City Hall? As much as I hate that building, if Michelangelo came back from the dead and painted it like the Sistine Chapel, without the city's permission, I would have him locked up too. It's so simple - you can tag anything you want, so long as it belongs to you and not someone else - it has to be an absolute! It doesn't matter how great you think the "art" is!

Ten bucks says it was some moron schoolkid with too much time and testosterone on his hands.

Not that it's right. I just don't think it was in preparation of a can march or something.
