Karma's a bitch.

Baseball really needs some sweeping steroid testing reform. The MLBPA will be against what needs to be done but who is going to stand up for the fans? In my mind, no one is clean. Everyones' numbers are suspect in my mind.

This is sad because I love baseball.

Ted McEnroe worries Manny might not have started whatever he's alleged to have done in LA:

If this develops into significant allegations that Manny used illegal substances while in Boston - the chuckles here will turn sour in a hurry and those World Series trophies might tarnish a bit.

We'll just have to wait and see ... and listen. Pull up a chair and brace yourself. This is about to get really interesting - in a troubling sort of way.

A baseball player not on steriods makes $3 million a year.

A baseball player on steroids who doesn't get caught makes $25 million a year.

A baseball player on steroids who gets caught makes $17 million a year and extra vacation.

If Manny were a professional cyclist, he'd be suspended from competition for two years, and have to pay back his entire salary for the season.

Statements by Ramirez and the players' union:

Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now. I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons. ...

And it only took five seasons. That's three tests per season, ones less than the leader of the Tour de France faces on any given day.

Be careful. Manny could be telling the truth:

... If any baseball superstar is capable of taking a medication in all innocence, and then finding out that something in it is included on Major League Baseball's banned list of substances it is Manny Ramírez. It certainly fits the profile.

After all, who should know better than us? ...
