When my brother was little, he apparently loved balloons.
One evening, my parents took him for a walk, and they stumbled across some lover's lane leftovers, as it were.
My brother spotted them, and exclaimed "B'oons!" "Boons for eckie!". My mom scooped him up, and he had the usual toddler fit about that. "boons for Eckie!!!! MY BOONS! Give my BOONS!"
"No, Eric, dirty balloons ... those are DIRTY balloons ... ". My parents apparently tried to explain in an age-appropriate way why he couldn't have them, all while hauling him away and totally LOL-ing about the whole thing.
I've seen this Back Bay. It might've been a Sunday morning when I happened to notice the ground beneath and around one benches on the Esplanade. The ground there was littered not just with used condoms and wrappers, but with a ring ball bearing assembly.
Living in the city is all about diversity, including diversity of consideration for others. All other things being equal, I think people would prefer living with people more like themselves. Except for people like the used condom litterers, since those condoms would pile up after a while.
Also, trashcans arent always available in this city. Go ahead and find one in kenmore square. In fact, walk from beacon and mass ave to beacon and the brookline border, and youll find not a single trash can along the way.
Unfortunately, I've come across used condoms on playgrounds more than a few times. I don't know, I think we want diversity and we want safe sex, etc. But if you can manage to get it on in a park, can you not manage to dispose of the waste? Urban dwellers need not dispose of good manners.
