Tipped over, leaking truck keeps it interesting on the Deck
By adamg on Fri, 06/26/2009 - 9:02am
Lori Magno shot the accident aftermath.
Channel 5 tweets a truck has wrapped itself around a Jersey barrier on 93 north by Sullivan Square and is leaking oil onto the lower deck is part-way on the other side of the highway, see link below to photos. At 9:06 a.m., Boston Police tweeted two lanes of 93 north wee shut. "Expect major delays," they advised.

Update: All northbound I-93 lanes are
now open again, but the southbound I-93 HOV lane is still closed.
Photos from the scene
Driver lucky the truck didn't go completely over the railing.
"leaking oil onto the lower deck"?
Lori Magno's photos appear to have been shot from the southbound lanes just before they separate from the northbound side to become the lower deck. So first, there's no danger of its "plummeting" off the structure, because it's on the barrier separating the highway -- note people milling about on the other side. And at that coordinate, there's no lower deck to leak onto. Presumably they mean the oil leaked onto the southbound lanes.
Unless I'm confused, which is always a distinct possibility.
What, you actually expect accuracy from
Boston traffic reporters?
Remember, these are the same folks who continue to insist that, in spite of all those large green signs to the contrary, Interstate 95 somehow disappears between Canton and Peabody.
Point taken

I am blind
Yeah, how'd I miss the troopers hovering in air there?
The trucker is still lucky
His truck is heaving over into the HOV lane, which has a lot of southbound Express Buses and trucks with crews in the cabs at that hour - heavy vehicles going 50-60 mph. For large vehicles, the lane is a tight fit.
(and I'm still amazed that my T-karma is holding ... my bike was at work and I barely made the Commuter Rail this morning. The express bus was my back up plan if I missed the train.)
Fuel leaked not only on to
Fuel leaked not only on to the southbound lanes, but presumably to Broadway below as well, as the Somerville PD had passage under I-93 blocked at that point at 9:15 (shifting me to Plan C, 28 north to Routes 16 and 99).
I'm assuming it didn't make it's way down to the Orange Line.
