Accountant charged with living large on Brighton employer's dime

A Westborough woman who worked as an accountant for a Brighton enviromental-engineering concern was charged today with bilking it out of at least $750,000 over several years - which she allegedly used for purchases at everything from Victoria's Secret to Petco.

Cynthia Goldberg, also known as Cynthia Kussy and Cynthia McDonnell, was indicted on 20 counts of larceny, false bookkeeping and misuse of a credit card, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. which says she not only misused company credit cards and cashed company checks, she obtained a line of credit under the FSL Associates' name.

Goldberg, who earned roughly $40 an hour as an accountant, had bail set at $25,000 in Suffolk Superior Court.

Investigators believe Goldberg’s total take was even higher, but were unable to charge additional offenses because the six-year statute of limitations had expired. Among documents recovered in the course of the grand jury investigation were receipts from PETCO, Victoria's Secret, Banana Republic, Wolfer's Lighting, the Ritz Carleton hotel, and area tanning salons. Receipts also show charges to limousine companies in Medway and out of state, as well as almost $650 in Massachusetts Turnpike Fast Lane violations.

Innocent, etc.

We always hear about the ones that get caught, because, well, we wouldn't hear about them if they didn't get caught. ;-) I just wonder what the success rate is for embezzlement.
