Commuter-rail conductors back on secret strike? They're not announcing trains again

Anna B reports on the past week at the Ruggles commuter-rail stop, at which not a single train's destination was announced, forcing commuters to play commuter-rail roulette:

... This Friday, fed up, I asked a conductor who was collecting fares about why no one announced what line the train was. He told me, "We did but you probably couldn't hear us going by 30 mph." I call bullshit. Not a single conductor was in a doorway as it pulled up to Ruggles. ...

She's blaming Grabauskas for last week.

Also, if employees are secretly compromising service on something like whether people get stuck on the wrong commuter rail (it's unclear to me that they are doing that) and then lying about it besides, I'd simply fire them.

Unions are a good thing in principle, but secretly sabotaging the system is unacceptable.

Has anyone else experienced what this blogger reported?

I don't ride the train everyday in the summer, but they definitely aren't doing that as far as I've noticed. The conductor's explanation sounds about right. It's not always audible because they are shouting over the sound of the train, OL trains, etc.

MBTA commuter trains don't display destination signs because... they never have, and that's just the way it is and has always been? Just like their 150-year-old fare collection methods? (I'm just guessing here. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.)

The next batch of commuter rail cars will have destination signs.

I have no idea why the last batch did not.

the commuter rail love their passive-aggressive secret strikes - especially on the WR commuter rail line...

They deny service like this periodically when they are displeased about something in their job

Yikes. This is bad because the windows on half the commuter rail trains are all so dirty/scratched up/etc that you can barely see out of them. And if you miss your stop and have to get off at the next one, the likelihood of an a train going back to your stop in a reasonable time is very low. The CR is a mess.

I've been using the Ruggles stop for the last few weeks and this is totally true. I had to ask several times to make sure I didn't get on the wrong friggin' train.
