Rabbi charged with molesting two Brookline students in the 1970s

A Suffolk County Grand Jury yesterday indicted Rabbi Stanley Z. Levitt on charges he sexually assaulted two students from the Maimonides School in Brookline when he was a teacher there in the 1970s.

Prosecutors allege one of the attacks occurred at Children's Hospital in Boston when Levitt, at the time a resident of Chiswick Road in Brighton, visited a student recovering from an accident. Three other charges related to alleged incidents over a three-night visit by another student to Levitt's Brighton home. Both students were 11 at the time, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says.

The DA's office says it learned of the allegations when the Children's Hospital victim notified Boston Police in September of last year. Levitt, who moved to Philadelphia in 1980 - and was convicted on a similar charge there - is scheduled for arraignment on Oct. 17 on four counts of indecent assault and battery on a person under 14.

DA Dan Conley says Levitt's decision to move to Philadelphia helped them to bring charges because the clock stopped ticking under the state's statute of limitations when Levitt moved out of Massachusetts.

Innocent, etc.
