Bank robbers now targeting supermarket branches, but so far don't have a high success rate

A Cambridge man was arraigned yesterday on charges he held up Citizens Bank branches in two Revere supermarkets last week.

Mark Amerault, 39, was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail yesterday, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

On Sunday, two men were arrested on charges they stuck up the Citizens Bank branch at the Dedham Stop & Shop - about an hour before a similar holdup at a supermarket in Danvers.

Prosecutors say Amerault held up Citizens branches at the Squire Road Stop & Shop on Sept. 22 and the VFW Parkway Stop & Shop on Sept. 26. In both cases, prosecutors say, he gave a teller a demand note and said he had a gun.

Innocent, etc.
