Giving thanks in November

Thanksgiving comes first

Thanksgiving at Hyde Park Avenue and West Street, Hyde Park.

Sure, there's already a Santa putting people on his knee at the South Shore Plaza, but some people still remember Thanksgiving comes first:

Boston TweetsGiving holds its Thanksgiving fundraiser on Nov. 24, 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Microsoft New England R&D Center in Cambridge. Proceeds (tickets start at $10), will help Mama Lucy Kamptoni, a Tanzanian woman who invested her income selling chickens to build a school that now serves over 300 children near her home.

"In our day-to-day lives, it's easy to forget all there is to be thankful for, from our health, to our families, to the quality of our educations," said Boston TweetsGiving organizer Gradon Tripp, "The aim of Tweetsgiving Boston is to remind of these things, and, in the spirit of the holidays, to also share our gratitude with those less fortunate."

On turkey day itself, there's the 12th annual Volvo 5K Turkey Trot, which benefits the Central New England Chapter of the MS Society, and which starts at 9 a.m. (with registration at 7:30 a.m.) at 75 N. Beacon St. in Brighton. More info.

What you can't tell from that photo is that they've already got all their Christmas stuff set up, but they haven't turned them on yet. You go, people at That House That Lights Up for Every Single Holiday!

I live close to there so I like pointing out that place to friends and visitors. Flags, shamrocks, jack-o-lanterns, they're prepared for everything!

Except giving their place a fresh coat of paint, apparently.

The brown helps highlight the decorations. :-)

Adam, thanks for helping to spread the word about Tweetsgiving Boston! I look forward to showing how Boston can come together and, in the spirit that awesomely-inflated turkey shows, help an Mama Lucy continue to give hope to her community. Happy Thanksgiving!
