Bus drivers from hell

What is it with school bus drivers who run early? Jody reports that her son's driver drove right by them as they were heading down their driveway this morning:

... I screamed at him to run, and we took off up the street, where she was stopping to pick up this other little girl. I screamed "Hold the bus!" to this little girl, who was staring at us, and as we neared the back of the bus, with me staring into the side rear-view mirror, the bus driver drove away from us. Now at least a dozen kids on the bus saw us running, either down the driveway (as I waved my arms) or as we trailed the bus. Did none of them say anything? Or did the she-devil bus driver ignore them all? ...

which, although it occurred many years ago, is still fresh on my mind when I read the "bus driver from hell" story. I was on the Mass. Ave/Dudley bus going back to Cambridge from Boston, where I'd been on an appointment that morning. Due to certain construction and repairs that were happening on one section of Mass. Ave. on the Boston side at the time, the buses had to be re-routed temporarily around Mass. Ave, and onto some of the back streets. The bus driver was clearly in a very, very bad mood and fuming at the world, so he was going extremely fast and driving rather erratically. Finally, he made a careening left turn onto Beacon Street, in order to get back onto Mass. Ave. I sat there in my seat, saying as loudly as I could,, "Hey, take it easy, fella." , but to no avail. One guy getting off the bus said bluntly to the driver "you've got problems, don't take it out on this bus and the people on it." Although he finally did ease up on his erratic driving some, I admit that I felt kind of sick on the stomach for the duration of the ride, and was glad when the bus reached my stop and was able to get off. Whew!!
