Gunfire in Dorchester, JP, Roslindale leaves one dead, two critically injured

Man found dead around 9 p.m. yesterday at 63 Armandine St., Dorchester.

Four thugs got off four rounds at 337 Centre St. (Mozart Park) in Jamaica Plain sometime today before fleeing in a 2000 Honda Civic (Mass. plates, 13TB55). Nobody reported injured.

The two teens shot yesterday afternoon at Washington and Beech streets in Roslindale were hurt pretty badly - one may be paralyzed from the waist down. Both were shot from behind.

Coincidence? This graffiti showed up on the grates on both the Bani Restaurant and Dajajo's sometime this weekend or early Monday. Then two teens were shot right there on Tuesday.

What's it mean?

I've seen this "Nekst" graffiti showing up regularly in Somerville and Charlestown lately too. I Googled it myself a few days back and didn't find much, apart from a bunch of photos of similar graffiti in San Francisco, which suggests it's not anything local--maybe it's gang-related?

Just over the past couple weeks, a large "Nekst" tag appeared underneath I-93, alongside the route 38 onramp to get onto the highway. It was there a couple days, then someone tagged over it with a bunch of T logos (odd?). That was undone the very next night, however, when someone redid the Nekst tag, just as good as it was before.

The area of Somerville I've seen this in is the east-side neighborhood that's been known for increasing gang activity over the past few years, especially MS-13. I dunno if it's related.

I think this graf is unrelated. Though the "Dirty 30 Mayhem" scrawl does seem particularly ominous at the spot where a kid was paralyzed by a shooting.

I'm pretty sure this stuff is just typical graf -- kids doing their thing. Not gang related at all. I'm guessing D30 is the name of their crew. Those upside down T logos are the same deal. Ive seen that crew name associated with tags all over the city. These groups are not gangs -- at least not what we currently refer to as gangs.

Traditonally, graf writers band together in little groups that are identified frequently by a symbol or the initals of the crew -- OD, KBN, YSB, 5AV, etc. Boston has had many over the years. In the past, writers were much more prolific -- before the city cracked down sending kids to jail.
