Watertown blogger gets big grant

Williams The Knight Foundation has awarded Lisa Williams a $220,000 grant for her work on Placeblogger, which catalogs and posts about Weblogs focused on specific local areas.

The grants go to "individuals, organizations or businesses with ideas and projects that will transform community news."

Other local folks winning grants are Christopher Csikszentmihalyi and Henry Jenkins, MIT Media Lab/Comparative Media Studies (they got a whopping $5 million to "develop, test and study new forms of high-tech community news"); David Ardia, Citizen Media Law Project, Berkman Center for Internet and Society, Harvard Law School; and Ethan Zuckerman, Global Voices, Berkman Center.
