Update: A small group of protesters were back at the mayor's house this morning - with cowbells.

Boston Police will confiscate bullhorns and other noisemakers if the anti-vax protesters who have been gathering outside Mayor Wu's Roslindale home try to use them again, E-5 Capt. Darrin Greeley tonight told residents fed up with the noise and the effect on neighborhood children. Read more.

Wellsmere Road fire

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to 60 Wellsmere Rd., off Washington Street in Roslindale, for a fire around 11 a.m.

Firefighters, working in bitter cold with heavy wind, found fire on both the second and third floors in the two-family house, unoccupied due to construction.

Car crash in Roslindale

Around 8:15 p.m. at Cummins Highway and Sycamore Street. At least three people, including a child and a police officer, transported to the hospital for observation, NBC Boston reports.

The Chester Telegraph reports a Florida doctor who is accused of murdering a Roslindale man driving a produce delivery truck in Vermont was released on $250,000 bail and is free to move about his Florida home town between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. Read more.

WBUR reports the School Committee voted last night to shut the Irving in Roslindale and the Timilty in Roxbury in June as part of the BPS effort to eliminate middle schools. The committee also voted to shut the Jackson-Mann in Allston, partly for that, partly because the building is physically falling apart.

Update: The big silver ball was found in a yard on Beryl Street.

A Roslindale resident is seeking help today finding a lawn ornament, "a large silver ball, bigger than a basketball" that blew away in the wind last night. So if you're anywhere near the Mozart School, like Beryl Street, Cornell Street or Havana Street, keep an eye out for one of those Christmastime silver balls.

Lisa Kashinsky reports that state Rep. Nika Elugardo (15th Suffolk) has decided to run for the state Senate seat Sonia Chang-Diaz is giving up next year to run for governor - potentially setting up a primary with former state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson, who is thinking of running.

The Dorchester Reporter reports that Wilkerson is considering a run next year now that incumbent Sonia Chang-Diaz, who defeated her in the Democratic primary in 2008, has taken herself out of the race so she can run for governor.
