The state, which owns the current Shattuck Hospital off Morton Street and Boston Medical Center are holding a Zoomed meeting on Tuesday to discuss their plans to replace the current hospital with new buildings with up to 405 apartments and new beds and clinical services for people with substance-abuse issues and the homeless, including families. The Bay State Banner reports residents living near the southern end of Franklin Park are less than thrilled with plans by the state and non-profit groups to transform the hospital grounds with 405 units of supportive housing for formerly homeless people, 326 beds for people being treated for substance abuse and 120 emergency shelter beds.

A woman who has been held in institutions since she was arrested in 2019 on charges she repeatedly stabbed a Boston EMT as she was being taken to Mass. General has a hearing scheduled next month to determine whether she should be allowed to walk out of the residential substance-abuse program at Shattuck Hospital where she now lives. Read more.

Jeff Anilus, 31, of Randolph was arraigned today in a bed at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he is recovering from gunshot wounds after, police say, he opened fire on officers and the officers returned fire early Thursday. Read more.

Update: The Suffolk County DA's office reports Jeff Anilus, 31, of Randolph will be arraigned "when deemed medically appropriate."

Live Boston reports a man who shot at police twice in the area around Shattuck Hospital was himself shot and critically injured after the second round early this morning. Read more.

The state next month will set up a "temporary cottage community" on the grounds of Shattuck Hospital in Franklin Park to house and care for up to 30 people who now live - or try to live - in tents along Methadone Mile, state Health and Human Services Secretary Mary Lou Sudders said today. Boston Magazine provides an overview of the fighting over the 13 acres of the park used for Shattuck Hospital - and now the "temporary" Arborway bus yard next door, pitting mental-health and park/greenspace advocates against each other and gathering in residents who have been putting up with the eyesore bus yard long after the T said it would do something about it.

The Jamaica Plain Gazette reports on a meeting between state officials and residents about the future of Shattuck Hospital's grounds in Franklin Park as the hospital is shut and moved to the South End. A state agency wants to use two acres of the land for affordable housing.

WBUR reports state officials have concluded buying a building Boston Medical Center is abandoning in the South End and moving Shattuck's state-funded patients there would be a lot cheaper than doing required renovations at Shattuck - and would get patients closer to programs run by BMC and the BU Medical School.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today found Vernon Thompson guilty of raping the girl, participating in a volunteer program at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in 2008, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Thompson, 40, was a patient at the Jamaica Plain hospital when he raped the girl in a stairwell. He faces life in prison. He is scheduled for sentencing on July 22.
