Mayor Walsh today announced a task force to consider what to do about the exploding problem of fireworks in Boston in the few days remaining until July 4.

Among the members of the task force: The four at-large members of the City Council, including Julia Mejia, who has beendemanding action against illegal fireworks for weeks now. Read more.

The Boston City Council agreed today to consider ways to help poor residents who find tickets on their car windshields.

But several councilors said that while they appreciate at-large Councilor Julia Mejia's proposal to let residents get a reduction on ticket fees by showing they meet certain income levels, they added they might prefer other ways to help out such residents instead of tinkering with ticket fees. Newly elected at-large City Councilor Julia Mejia posted a voice mail she got from somebody who is upset with her proposal to strengthen Boston's sanctuary-city regulations. He vows to call the president's office.

WGBH reports a recount showed that Julia Mejia won the fourth at-large seat on the city council by just one vote over Alejandra St. Guillen.

Andrea Doremus Cuetara is among the people in the Elections Department at City Hall this morning, waiting for the recount to begin in the race for the fourth at-large seat on the city council - in which Julia Mejia and Alejandra St. Guillen are current separated by less than ten votes.

The latest unofficial city election results now show just five votes separate Julia Mejia and Alejandra St. Guillen for the fourth at-large seat on the city council. Both campaigns have been collecting signatures for a recount of what, on election night, seemed to be a ten-vote election win for Mejia.

The Dorchester Reporter lists the steps the campaign of Alejandra St. Guillen will have to take to seek a recount of Tuesday's results, which show her losing the fourth at-large seat to Julia Mejia by just 10 votes.
