Yesterday, the Dorchester Reporter posted parts of an interview with US Rep. Steve Lynch in which he seemed to indicate he was fine with the president's plan to bring 10,000 Syrian refugees to the US: Read more.

Ezra Schwartz, 18, of Sharon, was one of three people killed by a Palestinian with an Uzi in a West Bank attack today, Yeshiva World reports.

Schwartz was spending a year studying in an Israeli yeshiva. Several other American students at the school were injured in the attack. Ha'aretz reports a Palestinian man got out of a car in the Gush Etzion region around 4:30 p.m. and fired an Uzi at other cars; he then got back in the car, drove away and crashed the vehicle.

The family of a man killed by a Hezbollah rocket in northern Israel in 2006 says Iran and several Iranian banks owe it $300 million in damages for his death.

In a suit filed this week in US District Court in Boston, the family of David Lelchook say Hezbollah could never have undertaken a large rocket barrage against Israel that year without Iranian backing. Read more.

A federal appeals court this week upheld lower-court rulings that the MBTA can limit what it allows on ads on its buses and trains and in its stations.

The US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in Boston rejected claims by a right-wing pro-Israel group that if the T allowed ads referring to Palestinians as "refugees" it also had to allow ads referring to them as "savages."

Cardinal Seán O’Malley, Metropolitan Methodios, the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Boston, and the Reverend Laura E. Everett, executive director of the Massachusetts Council of Churches, last night issued a statement on the murder of five people at a Jerusalem synagogue, which included a rabbi from the Boston area:

After battling a Palestinian-hating group for months over anti-Palestinian ads, the T is now drawing the ire of a pro-Palestinian group for taking down its anti-Israel ads a few days early.

Apparently, the people at Brandeis who decide these things haven't heard of Google and only decided not to give Ayaan Hirsi Ali an honorary degree after getting protests about the way she's described Islam as "a destructive, nihilistic cult of death."

Ali responded with a statement accusing the Jewish-founded university of turning its back on its own ideals:

For the second time in three months, a federal judge has said the company that manages advertising for the T did nothing to violate the First Amendment in rejecting an ad from a New Hampshire group that compares Palestinians to savages.

Only this time, Judge Nathaniel Gorton signaled he's getting a little sick of the American Freedom Defense Initiative, which sued the T a second time after the T accepted a compromise ad after rejecting its first ad, then rejected the group's last-minute "tweak" to that ad that made it more similar to the original ad. In an order released today, Gorton writes:

The Huntington News reports a leafletting campaign over the treatment of Palestinians on the West Bank.

A group that couldn't get a federal judge to force the MBTA to run ads calling Palestinians "savages" has filed another federal lawsuit trying to get the judge to force the MBTA to run a similar ad.

The American Freedom Defense Initiative filed its second suit in US District Court in Boston yesterday after the T's ad agency agreed to modify its original ad, but then rejected a modification to the modified ad that was much more similar to the original rejected ad.

Boston Magazine reports the T will allow ads from an anti-Palestinian group now that it's agreed to modify a supposed quote from Ayn Rand that refers to "those engaged in savage acts" against Israel rather than just "savages" and to change a demand to defeat "jihad" with a demand to defeat "violent jihad."

Rand ad

A federal judge has rejected a pro-Israel group's demands that the MBTA be required to immediately post ads that use an Ayn Rand quote to support Israel, because there's nothing wrong with the T's policy to reject any ads that a "reasonable" person would find "demeaning or disparaging" toward a large group of people, such as, say, by calling them savages.

The American Jewish Committee of Boston says the Muslim-hating group suing the T for the right to put up ads declaring Palestinians savages is doing more harm than good for the cause of Israel in the US. In a statement issued today, the group's leaders say:

Matthew Wilding reports stumbling onto an exhibit by six contemporary Egyptian artists (one of whom died in Tahrir Square) at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.

I don’t know whether this exhibit was "good art" (though it's affiliation with the MFA infers it). I do know that it was incredibly effective. It was interesting and beautiful, and it made me relate to the core with people I very rarely find common ground with or think about.
