ShinA man banned from the T in 2008 for groping women was arraigned today in Boston Municipal Court on charges he groped a woman on the Green Line Thursday afternoon, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

According to an MBTA Transit Police report, Jacob Shin, 36, of Newton, and his alleged victim were on an outbound D trolley around 5:45 p.m. when Shin moved closer to her as the train approached Hynes. Police say Shin then put his hand high up on her inner thigh. Shin allegedly said "Sorry," when the woman told him to knock it off. He then got off the train at Hynes, the report says.

The report continues that police showed the woman video of passengers leaving through the station fare gates. When she picked out a suspect, police were able to call up his CharlieCard information, which said it was registered to Shin. He was arrested and charged with indecent assault and battery around 5:45 p.m.

Shin pleaded innocent at his arraignment. Judge Tracy-Lee Lyons set bail at $5,000 and ordered that if Shin makes bail he has to stay off the T and wear a GPS monitoring device, the District Attorney's office says.

Innocent, etc.

Lawrence Maguire's arrest came about an hour after he left Boston Municipal Court after a pre-trial hearing on the August case, the MBTA says. The 59-year-old Dorchester resident is now due back at the court today for arraignment on yesterday's charge.

A Transit Police report gives the following account of yesterday's arrest:

VelhoVelhoThe MBTA reports a Charlestown man was arrested for allegedly grabbing a woman's behind at Community College on the Orange Line on July 8 and that a Brighton man was arrested at Copley this morning for allegedly rubbing against a woman from behind on a B trolley - and then pinning her in and continuing to grind away.

In the Orange Line incident, John Velho, 36, allegedly grabbed a woman's buttocks around 6 p.m. on July 8, then immediately apologized. But he allegedly then followed the woman onto the platform, where she reported him to an inspector, who responded by ordering a halt to Orange Line service and calling police. Velho then fled from the station, the MBTA says, adding Velho was arrested today on a charge of indecent assault and battery.

Megan Johnson was on a Green Line trolley stuck between Hynes and Copley for an hour during this afternoon's MBTAfail. She reports what happened when A T workger got on board and told everybody they'd have to walk through the tunnel to the station:

... [She] loudly yelled to passengers, "Okay, people! We are going to have you get off the train and walk" and then after recognizing that there were two passengers using wheelchairs, proceeded to yell out the door of the train, "Oh man we got a wheelchair!" While the passengers in wheelchairs didn't say anything, the MBTA employee demonstrated a blatant lack of tact in her choice of words. ... They may not be able to walk, but these wheelchair-using passengers have no trouble hearing your blatantly rude comments. ...

As mentioned in an earlier post, I'm covering the Enterprise 2.0 Conference at the Westin Waterfront Hotel. And the only reason I'm able to upload my stories to Universal Hub are the EVDO access I have on my laptop.

Tom Fulry discusses the Jesus people with the cardboard signs who he says accosted him on the mezzanine of Hynes station a few weeks back:

As I walk by them: "All Jews are going to hell. Take your bombs back to Israel or convert to Christianity."

He reported them to a station attendant, who started yelling at them. Now, he writes, they're back in the station, but this time with a phalanx of eight MBTA cops to protect them.

BadTransit seems to be running a new series: Trains that start moving before they should:

... Today, in an obscenely overcrowded B-line train, the driver closed the doors on the fingers of a girl standing next to me. The train was so packed she really had nowhere else to hold on to. Then he started to leave the station (Hynes) until several people yelled and finally got him to stop and open the door. ...
