Orchard Gardens School parking lot

ND reports on the state of the staff parking lot at the Orchard Gardens K-8 Pilot School in Roxbury this morning:

I hope other schools fared better than we did - this is our staff parking lot at arrival this morning.

Seems Northeastern President Joseph Aoun lives on Beacon Street at Joy and protesters are trying to occupy it to protest a research contract ICE has with Northeastern.

Beacon is currently shut between Joy and Park.

Wood and ice in the Neponset River

The mouth of the Neponset was pretty icy along the rotting pilings near the Venezia in Port Norfolk today. There was still a fair amount of open water out in the center of the river.

Ducks, geese and coots in water at otherwise frozen Jamaica Pond

Geese, ducks and coots congregated in what appeared to be the last remaining bit of open water on Jamaica Pond, at the north end, this morning. Some birds remained aloof: Two swans seemed to prefer their space out on the ice rather than sharing it with their cousins, as did a flock of seagulls. Read more.

RTÉ reports ICE raided a Quincy apartment last week and put two Irish nationals into custody. One was released "pending the outcome of a visa application which he had already submitted prior to his detection," but the other, who was facing an OUI charge, was transported to the Suffolk County House of Correction, where he could sit for several weeks pending a hearing on being deported.
