So many pumpkins, but here's some time to get rid of them in a more environmentally friendly way: The city of Boston Zero Waste team, Boston Green Academy, the South Street Youth Center and Mothers Out Front will hold a pumpkin-smashing and composting event at the English High School track, 144 McBride St. in Jamaica Plain, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. this Saturday. Spontaneous Celebrations announced today it's postponed the annual lantern festival from this weekend to next, in the hopes we won't get more rain then.

However, lantern making - indoors - is still on for this weekend at the group's offices at 45 Danforth St.

Seagull at Jamaica Pond

When you think of birds at Jamaica Pond, what normally comes to mind are ducks, geese, maybe cormorants and swans. There's usually a flock of seagulls, too, it's just they rarely get near the shore - let alone come up and stand on it, like this gull did late this afternoon.

El Mundo Boston reports that El Oriental de Cuba on Centre Street has closed for good. Owner and founder Nobel Garcia died in 2021 and after two years of trying to keep it going, his daughters decided it was time to say goodbye. It will be replaced by a Mexican restaurant.

A woman who says she was a patient of Dr. Derrick Todd today sued both him and Brigham and Women's Hospital - him for alleged sexual molestation and harassment during and between exams, the hospital for not acting soon enough to stop what he was doing. Read more.

DCR crews last night began two weeks of overnight road restriping to add what is supposed to be a temporary second car lane between Murray Circle - the big rotary at one end of the Arboretum - and the main entrance to the Arnold Arboretum, about 500 feet south, as work continues to map out more permanent fixes to the Arborway that include permanent bicycle paths and safer pedestrian crossings. The MSPCA reports that Jobee, a dog that was among the worst cases of intentional animal starvation the group says it has ever seen, and a second dog, Remy, who was also taken by the MSPCA, have recovered enough that they are now ready for adoption. Read more.

Routes to White Stadium from possible parking lots

Routes from areas where the team might seek to set up parking. The numbers refer to total van rides, not the number of vans in use.

The team that won a professional women's soccer franchise for Boston tonight sketched out a preliminary transportation plan for roughly 20 home games a year at a renovated White Stadium in Franklin Park that could include shuttle vans from for-fee parking areas in more remote areas in places, possibly as far away as areas near Rte. 128, I-93 near the Neponset and north of Jackson Square.
