Swanboat sections heading north past Jamaica Pond

Some Swan Boat sections made their way north on Pond Street by Jamaica Pond yesterday afternoon. The Swan Boats are scheduled to return to their leisurely tours of the Public Garden lagoon on Saturday.

Also headed north yesterday - but in Jamaica Pond - was one of the pond's muskrats, on the Parkman Drive side: Read more.

A developer has proposed replacing an auto-repair garage and parking lot at 3458 Washington St., across Kenton Road from Hatoff's gas station in Jamaica Plain with a 37-unit, five-story apartment building. Read more.

An irate citizen with an EV filed a 311 complaint this morning about somebody else with an EV who prematurely unplugged the irate citizen's EV from a charger in the municipal lot behind Centre Street in JP - despite only having been plugged in for an hour.

Via the Jamaica Plain Facebook group comes word that the long vacant Il Panino space across Centre Street from the Jackson Square T station now has a sign advising it will soon become an outlet of Viva Mi Arepa, which has long served up Venezuelan food at Grove and Washington streets in West Roxbury, but whose continued existence there is possibly threatened by plans for a new apartment building.

A Suffolk Superior Court judge ruled today that the proposed $80-million renovation of White Stadium to support a professional women's soccer team would actually expand public access both to the stadium and nearby park areas and gave the city and the nascent soccer team permission to continue. The other night, state Rep. Sam Montaño (D-15th Suffolk) hosted a meeting at English High School to talk about how to consider Boston Medical Center's plans to turn Shattuck Hospital into a large recovery center possibly featuring several hundred housing units in addition to a rebuilt hospital building. Firefighters up ladders at Boylston Congregational Church

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to the Boylston Church at 207 Amory St. in Jamaica Plain for a basement fire around 3 p.m. Read more.

Firefighter checks under MRI structure at VA Hospital

A fire possibly caused by welding outside the rear of the VA Hospital, 150 South Huntington Ave. in Jamaica Plain, spread to an MRI room around 10 a.m.

Hospital employees shut down the MRI system, in a one-story attachment to the hospital, and firefighters evacuated the hospital in that area. The fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes.

Pair of turtles that had climbed into the sun at Jamaica Pond

This afternoon, there were at least five turtles that climbed out of the water for some sun at the traditional turtle sunning spot on the northernish side of Jamaica Pond, including these two, which got a bit more vertical than the three lazing about on a more horizontal tree branch.

A career criminal was sentenced to 15 to 18 years in prison for a 2022 chase that ended with him shooting at cops, missing, running away, aiming the gun at other cops, then getting shot himself, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Read more.

Somebody left a bunch of small word rocks on top of one large rock near the Jamaica Pond boathouse.

Not everything that goes wrong on the T is the T's fault, it seems. First it was the little duck and today, the T says, it had to shut the Orange Line between Forest Hills and Back Bay after an overhead Amtrak power line unspooled or snapped or something near Ruggles, causing problems for the neighboring subway line. Boston Police report that since Jan. 26, numerous cars in Jamaica Plain have been broken into, including on Centre, Paul Gore, Forbes and Castleton streets and Lochstead Avenue, typical on Thursday nights into Friday mornings.

Two cars parked at 211 Boylston St. was broken into sometime late on Feb. 23 or early Feb. 24, police say.

Citing the potential for "irreparable harm" to Franklin Park, the Emerald Necklace Conservancy yesterday sued Boston, a city trust fund and the group seeking to bring women's professional soccer to Franklin Park over plans for an $80-million rebuilding and expansion of White Stadium. Read more.

Agents from a variety of federal law-enforcement agencies and Boston Police today swept up more than 40 alleged members of the Heath Street gang, based at the Mildred Hailey apartments in Jamaica Plain, on charges that range from drug dealing and being a felon in possession of a firearm to committing RICO violations.
