Ninth District Rep. Steve Lynch and Democratic challenger Mac D'Alessandro discussed everything from the proposed Islamic cultural center in lower Manhattan to, of course, health care, in a 20-minute discussion on WGBH's "Greater Boston" tonight (Watch).

D'Alessandro said he supported the rights of a Moslem group to build a cultural center two blocks from Ground Zero: "We have a constitutionally protected right to practice our faith as we see fit, and you know, those rights, those core values mean the most when it's uncomfortable for us to adhere to them," he said.

Channel 2's "Greater Boston" will air a debate between 9th District incumbent Steve Lynch and Democratic challenger Mac D'Alessandro at 7 p.m. tonight (the debate will be taped at 4:30). Greater Boston airs for 30 minutes, so that would make this twice as long as their earlier debate.

Two Republicans running for Congress in Massachusetts's own 3rd District, that's who. But don't worry: Another Republican running for the right to take on Jim McGovern - a guy who's a physicist at Harvard, no less - is convinced Obama's really an atheist.

Clinton pushes for Lynch before heading off to big wedding: Dave Parsons too more photos.Clinton pushes for Lynch, heads off to big wedding: Part of a set of photos by Dave Parsons.

Mike Ball was at the Ironworkers Hall in Southie today:

... You'd think the rally was for Clinton and Lynch was brought in to fluff the crowd for him. Lynch praised Clinton's presidency mightily and repeatedly, then Bill took over and did the same. He eventually got back around to saying how important it was to keep Lynch in office. ...

Also, state Rep. Marty Walsh of Dorchester attacked Lynch's primary opponent, Mac D'Alessandro, by making the remarkable claim that Republicans never run against each other. Apparently, Marty hasn't gotten south of the Neponset recently.

The Mac D'Alessandro campaign says it's submitted 4,000 signatures to the secretary of state's office, which should be more than enough to get him on the Democratic primary ballot this fall against Ninth District incumbent Steve Lynch.

MassBeacon.com introduces us to James Kennedy, yet another one of those Kennedys who isn't one of those Kennedys, running for the 10th District seat being vacated by Bill Delahunt. As a Democrat, of course. Now, this Kennedy actually lives in South Boston, which is Steve Lynch's district, but as a lawyer, he knows you don't have to live in a congressional district to run there.

Harmony Wu, who was considering a run for congress against Steve Lynch after his vote against health care reform last month, has decided not to run. I received the news through a Facebook message from the "Draft Harmony Wu" Facebook group.

So now it's between Steve Lynch and Phil Dunkelbarger in November, it seems.

Harmony's message below the fold.

Dear Friends,

After careful consideration, I have decided not to run in the Democratic primary for the MA 9th Congressional Seat.

By adamg - 3/22/10 - 4:32 pm

Conor Yunits runs the numbers, thinks Southie and disaffected union rank-and-file will still go heavily for Lynch, swamping the lefties of Jamaica Plain:

... If a Wu or Dunkelbarger candidacy is intended just to send Lynch some sort of message that liberals are pissed ... I'm guessing he already knows that. But if liberals actually think they could oust Lynch in the 9th over his health care vote?

Teddy can rest easy tonight.

As expected, Stephen Lynch, D-9th, voted no on the measure (Times map showing all the votes). State Rep. Jeff Perry, R-Sandwich, running to replace Bill Delahunt in the 10th district, wasted no time issuing a press release calling the measure unconstitutional.

Joe Malone announces run for Congress in the 10th District; will have to beat state Rep. Jeff Perry of Sandwich and Cohassett businessman Ray Kasperowicz in the Republican primary before facing some Democrat in the general election to replace Bill Delahunt.

Although I am not happy with every aspect of this bill, I have come to the conclusion that the benefits for Massachusetts and the country outweigh the problems.
