The Harvard Gazette reports the court will consider whether Harvard's admission policy, which lets administrators consider race "as one of several possible criteria in deciding whom to accept" is an illegal quota. In 2020, the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit concluded it was not and dismissed the case brought by a group founded by white people over alleged anti-Asian-American discrimination, but the group appealed.

Harvard's undergraduate spring semester is scheduled to start Jan. 24; the university says it will "monitor the situation" and decide whether students and professors can have in-person classes or whether they will have to start the semester remotely.

It's like March, 2020 again at the Harvard Business School, which has ordered a week-long return to remote-only education for first-year MBA students, because it seems too many future masters of the universe have been ignoring basic Covid-19 precautions - to the point where the business school made up two-thirds of new Covid-19 cases among Harvard students this month despite comprising only 9% of the total school population. The Crimson reports Harvard has shut its eponymous Yard to the public between 5 p.m. and 3 a.m. through Oct. 11, partly for Covid-19 concerns, but more to provide some respite for the tender Harvard freshmen who live on the Yard.

The ban on non-Harvard students in those hours even applies to parents - the Crimson quotes one frosh who came back from a Target run with her parents only to learn they couldn't come up to her dorm with her, forcing to carry all of her purchases to her room by herself.

The Crimson reports Harvard researchers who hoped to release particles into the atmosphere to see if they could reduce the amount of sunshine hitting the earth were blocked by protests from the Saami Council, which represents Saami living in an area of Sweden where the tests were to be done.
