That's a lot of nog: Vanilla, lite and pumpkin

Remember when there was just one flavor of nog - egg? Roving UHub photographer Michael Halle couldn't help but notice all the nog for sale today at the Newtonville Star Market - and couldn't help but wonder how something could be "limited edition" nog if it's for sale for months at a time, like even before the end of summer.

Keolis reports the Harvard Street stairs have re-opened, but that the Walnut Street stairs remain shut for repairs.

The MBTA reports it's closed the Newtonville station on the Worcester Line "until further notice" because of some problems with the stairs up to the street that require immediate attention. The T says riders should head to West Newton instead - but will provide a shuttle bus 20 minutes before a scheduled train arrival from Newtonville to West Newton for people who don't get word in time to make the switch.

Transit Police report a man in his 20s was hit and killed by an outbound train to Worcester near the Newtonville stop around 5:15 p.m. Police are investigating what he was doing on the tracks, but say foul play is not suspected. Read more.

What's left of Newtonville Camera

Nathan Aranow peered through the front windows of what used to be Newtonville Camera on Walnut Street in Newton. Developer Robert Korff is tearing down the entire block at Walnut and Washington streets for one of those trendy mixed-use development things.

Transit Police report a teen was hit by an inbound Worcester Line train around 8:45 p.m. in Newtonville.

Police and the Middlesex County District Attorney's office are investigating the death, but foul play is not suspected, police say.

Stairs down to Newtonville MBTA station covered in ice

Alexis Deise peered down the stairs at the Newtonville stop on the Worcester Line this morning.

At 7:45 a.m., there were delays on numerous lines due to mechanical problems, "late turn of equipment" and, of course, train traffic.

Service in both directions on the Worcester Line was halted around 8:30 a.m. upon discovery of a suspicious package at Newtonville. Police declared the package not suspicious about 15 minutes later and trains were free to go about their business.

Village 14 reports the city's Board of Aldermen voted 21-2 tonight to grant a permit to Garden Remedies for a dispensary at 697 Washington St. in Newtonville.

The concern was already on the state's dispensary approval list, and could be the first one to actually open in the state.

Wanted for Newton robbery

Newton Police report they are looking for a man and woman for an armed holdup at Second Appearance, 801 Washington St., yesterday afternoon.

WBZ reports the two bound one worker up and put duct tape over another's mouth before making off with cash and jewelry.

Fire in Newtonville

The Newton Fire Department reports a fire at 355 Newtonville Ave. went to three alarms and brought firefighters from Newton and Boston.

The department ordered firefighters out of the three-story home.

Drivers on nearby streets and the turnpike reported thick smoke filled the air.

At which point, Nik repeats his view of me as the cause of the standing-room-only. And explains that I've blogged about Taste. At which point the man pipes up: "Here's a quote for your blog: 'Taste is the best thing to happen to Newtonville in five years.'" ...
