At yesterday's meeting of the MassDOT Board of Directors, MassDOT reiterated its plan to spend $500M to rebuild the Mass Pike in Allston and build a rail yard for midday commuter rail train storage.

New bus and rail transit services are not included in the project's first two phases, but are anticipated for the year 2040. Read more.

MassDOT today released the schedule for summer driving hell on the Comm. Ave. bridge: The outbound lanes will be shut between July 26 and Aug. 11 as part of "accelerated" replacement work scheduled for completion next year. Read more.

A Red Line train heading inbound breathed its last at Harvard Square at the height of rush hour, causing 30-minute delays. The carcass has finally been hauled away, but the MBTA reports there are still residual delays of 10 to 15 minutes.

The MBTA cut the power to both sides of the Orange Line at Back Bay around 12:30 after trash between the tracks just outbound from the station burst into flames. The fire was quickly extinguished and the Boston Fire Department returned the scene to T control around 12:45 so that power could be turned back on.

The Globe reports nearly 50 of the people who drive commuter-rail trains have had their motor-vehicle licenses suspended. Even the guy in charge of training them to operate trains safely has racked up 11 parking tickets and caused two accidents, the Globe reports.

Transit Police report they are looking for this guy, on charges he kicked out a window on a Red Line train at JFK/UMass "for his own amusement" around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.

New Orange Line cars

Lisa Angelo spotted those two new Orange Line cars out for a spin on the third set of tracks near Wellington station this morning as they undergo several months of testing.

Meanwhile, the T reports the CRRC plant in Springfield has accepted four new Orange Line "shells" for assembly into actual Orange Line cars: Read more.
