City Councilors Ed Flynn and Michael Flaherty will do their part to prod the city - and state and federal - public-works crews to ensure we won't see any repeats of the incident last week when a light pole held only by rusted bolts gave way and fell on a woman walking across the Moakley Bridge. WCVB reports on our decaying infrastructure, specifically, a pole that gave way and smashed into a woman's head this afternoon. A 311 report claims the pole was rusted at the bottom.
In a letter to the state, the BPDA says it's resolved its long-standing issues with Don Chiofaro and the city is now OK with him replacing the Aquarium garage with a 600-foot tower (yes, just one), as part of a waterfront master plan that would also see new open space at what is now a Long Wharf parking lot and a new deck for the Harborwalk near the Moakley Bridge. Police are looking for a man they say left a large suitcase near a Homeland Security vehicle at the Coast Guard building on Atlantic Avenue around 9:50 a.m., then walked away in a hurry.
Police responding to the scene quickly shut Atlantic Avenue and Seaport Boulevard over the Evelyn Moakley Bridge as the bomb squad arrived. Eventually, an I-93 ramp was shut as well. Read more.
