The Supreme Judicial Court today vacated George Ortega's conviction for the 2012 murder of Steven Fuentes on Leyland Street in Dorchester, saying the judge in the case should have should have pressed prosecutors more on their decision to try to exclude a black woman from the jury - and should have told the jury to consider whether Fuentes's death was a case of self defense. The Massachusetts Appeals Court ruled today a worker at UMass Boston can proceed with a libel suit against the news editor at the campus newspaper, which published a photo of him in 2013 provided by campus police - who wanted to ask him whether he was photographing women on a shuttle bus from the JFK/UMass T stop to the school. UPDATE: Police identify the victim as Patrick Sales, 29, of Dorchester.

Boston Police report a man was shot repeatedly outside 500 Blue Hill Ave., near Castlegate, around 8:10 p.m. The man, believed to be in his late 20s, was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Gallivan Boulevard crash

Around 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Magdala Street and Gallivan Boulevard, according to a nearby resident who heard the crash, went to investigate and took the photo - and who is getting tired of the crashes there and along that stretch of Gallivan in general.

Somebody fired at a car with three occupants going down Merlin Street between Athelwold and Park streets around 9:35 p.m. The driver crashed; he and his passenger ran down Park towards Washington, where police found them - the driver shot to the neck. He was taken to a local hospital.
