With a blanket of snow over Dorchester, we were surprised to hear the soothing sounds of exotic tiki music wafting out of an open, third story window on Sachem Street. The ukulele strains were so hypnotic, a gaggle of Dorchesterites had stopped in the middle of the middle of the street with ears cocked upward. Nobody was doing a lot of driving today but the streets were thick with pedestrians heading though the snow flakes for milk, malt liquor, bagged snack food and pizza made to order. ...

Boston Police report workers at the Ups and Downs Bar, 469 Neponset Ave., in Dorchester, called around 1 this morning to complain a guy was outside starting fights and trying to punch out car windows.

When officers looked over at the suspect, the suspect began punching a window on a car. As officers approached, the suspect walked towards them, fell over a snow bank and into the side of a car. When officers helped the suspect to his feet, the suspect began yelling and screaming at the officers. Moreover, the suspect attempted to punch the officers.

Ryan Claire, 27, of Boston, was then arrested and charged with resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct.

Boston Police report that when two drinking buddies got into an argument at 7 Fernboro St. in Dorchester early Saturday morning, one guy tried to make a point - with the sharp implement, possibly a box cutter, he allegedly plunged into the other guy.

As officers approached the suspect, officers noted the suspect had blood on his face and clothing. When asked about the stabbing, the suspect stated, "I was there but I didn't stab anyone."

The victim was taken to Boston Medical Center with what police said was not a life-threatening stab wound. William White, 27, of Boston, was taken to the nearest police station for booking on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Boston Police report that when a Dorchester pizza place got an order from 17 Argyle St., the same address at which a driver had been robbed a few days earlier, they called police. Police sent along a plainclothes officer to accompany the delivery guy (along with uniformed officers at a discreet distance).

The driver asked the suspect if he had placed an order to which he responded he had. The suspect when asked if he had the money for the order stated yes, reached in his pocket but did not produce any money. While speaking to the suspect Mondesir, the driver noticed two males hiding in the bushes located on the side of the house. The driver at this point pointed out the two other suspects in the bushes to suspect Mondesir who then started walking towards the driver.

The detective from the car at this time observed a bulge in suspect Mondesir coat pocket resembling a possible gun quickly exited the car. The suspect at this time turned from the victim and started walking away down the street. The suspect attempted to run when the detective got out of the car but the detective pursued the suspect. ...

Stevenson DeLucien, 20, Louidson Mondesir, 19 and Larry Ferdinand, 24, all of Dorchester, were charged with armed assault with intent to rob, conspiracy to commit a crime and trespassing. Louidson was additionally charged with carrying a long knife in public. Police say that they have yet to connect the three to the earlier incident.

A Dorchester man was sentenced to eight years in federal prison earlier this month for two failed bank robberies downtown, the FBI reports.

Scott Backus, 46, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to charges he tried to hold up two Citizens Bank branches, one on Franklin Street and one on State Street, on Oct. 30, 2007, according to his indictment.

According to the FBI, when he gave a teller at one of the banks a stickup note and she didn't respond immediately, he simply walked out:

Backus then went to another Citizens Bank in downtown area and again attempted to rob the bank by passing a note, and again walked out without money. Federal investigative agents were leaving the first bank, on their way to investigate the robbery attempt at the second bank, when they witnessed Backus walking toward them.

Boston Police report five incidents since October involving women who say they were attacked or raped by taxi and limo drivers between 11:50 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., most recently, the case of the Northeastern student picked up and allegedly raped in a cabbie's van on Dec. 7.

Steven Odegard, wanted for the murder of Daniel Yakovleff in January, turned himself in at the District 11 police station late last night and will be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court today, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

The arraignment is scheduled for 2 p.m. so that Yakovleff's family from Connecticut can attend the hearing.

Odegard, in whose bed Yakovleff's body was found, was indicted Monday on charges he repeatedly stabbed Yakovleff with a kitchen knife after meeting up at a South End club.

Authorities are now hunting for Steven Odegard, 41, for the stabbing death of Daniel Yakovleff in Dorchester on Jan. 17.

Odegard, in whose bed Yakovleff was found, was indicted by a Suffolk Superior Court grand jury yesterday, District Attorney Dan Conley and Police Commissioner Ed Davis said in a statement, adding that, based on the evidence collected over the past ten months:

Odegard retrieved a knife from his own kitchen and stabbed Yakovleff multiple times, killing him.

Police went to Odegard's current Dorchester Avenue apartment this morning, but Odegard had already fled.

The week after Yakovleff's murder, Odegard's lawyer maintained his innocence - and pointed to an unknown third man allegedly in the apartment - in a Bay Windows interview.

Yakovleff was last seen alive leaving the Eagle Bar in the South End, where Odegard had picked him up.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Steven Banks, 48, of slicing up an ex-girlfriend's former beau so badly the man today needs to wear a small weight in one of his eyelids to help him blink, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

Prosecutors charge Banks and the man got into a fight after their mutual female acquaintance introduced them on Nov. 13 of last year:

Officers O'Brien and Rosenthal were parked on Hendry Street observing the comings and goings of some locals when a green Pontiac drove past them up Bowdoin Street. Channel 4 reports the Dorchester Pop Warner football team could be barred from future national championships after a player bopped an adult official from a Rhode Island team down in Florida - "after several behavioral issues throughout the week." (Ed. Note: WBZ has removed the phrase from its story and added an assertion by a Dorchester coach that the Rhode Island coach struck his player first).

MassMostWanted reports Hanover Police are looking for a guy, who goes by the names "Magnetic Mack" and Raymond, in connection with a kidnapping around 1 a.m. on Dec. 3 on Hinckley Street in Dorchester:

She said that he put her into his m/v, a newer model white Chevy impala unknown reg. The victim says the pictured male subject robbed her and assaulted her. He finally let her go ion rt. 53 in Hanover.

Meanwhile, the Huntington News reports Saugus Police arrested a Boston man on charges he kidnapped and raped a Northeastern student on Sunday:

The 20-year-old student repeatedly opened and closed a van door as the suspect drove down Route 1 in Saugus in front of a patrol car at about 3:00 a.m, said Lieutenent Mike Annese from the Saugus Police Department. This prompted police to pull the van over.

Faisel Abdi Ibrahim, 36, now faces a variety of charges. The Lynn Daily Item reports Ibrahim offered the woman a ride in Boston, then drove her to Saugus, where he raped her. He was ordered held without bail in Lynn District Court yesterday.
