Thing with long wire connected to Alewife garage

Presumably, that $5.7-million repair contract for the Alewife garage that should be starting soon will include doing something about circuit boxes or light fixtures dangling from one garage level to the ground, like the one Alewife Commuter spotted this morning.

MassDOT reports today that the engineers have given the Alewife garage a clean bill of health and that it will resume regular operations tomorrow - and keep doing so at least until a contractor comes in next month for a $5.7-million repair job.

The garage had been having partial and full closures for repairs since Aug. 8, when some concrete fell on a car.

MassDOT reports engineers have concluded the spot repairs done over the weekend are good enough that the garage at the Alewife T stop can re-open for business at 5 a.m. on Monday. The state began a rolling shutdown of 500 spaces at a time in the garage after concrete plunged onto a car Wednesday. Read more.

News vans reporting... news that Alewife is crumbling

PARKAPOCALYPSE? Monday Metrowest Disaster? You choose your disaster title!

Alewife MBTA garage is closed to new traffic; 5 Investigates (broke the story) and other news crews are on scene, I imagine it's almost as good as a snowstorm newscast.

Town of Arlington alerts note that MBTA will be closing the garage over weekend, at least partly closed on Monday, parking at Thorndike field allowed:

Through ongoing assessments and repair work, additional areas of deteriorated concrete that need to be addressed have been discovered. As such, the garage will be closed over the weekend to address these areas and to expedite the repair plan.

Red Line logjam at Park Street

By 5:15, delays were up to 35 minutes and Park Street was jammed. Photo by Sarina Tracy.

Like a horse refusing to enter a stable, a train about to enter Alewife decided nuh uh, and now the MBTA reports delays on the Red Line of up to 25 minutes as "official works to move the train into the station." Try sugar cubes?

Cambridge Day reports the bridge could go up by 2025, funded by a new fee on developers in the area.

The Red Line had two dead trains (at Park and North Quincy) and signal problems at Alewife during the morning rush.

The Green Line had signal problems at Kenmore.

By adamg - 1/18/18 - 12:25 pm

Pretty much as soon as the T got that dead train out of the way at Davis, another train died at Alewife, so the delays are still severe.

By adamg - 12/28/17 - 9:00 am

It was a sluggish ride for Red Line riders at the height of rush hour this morning after a train refused to get out of bed at Alewife.

By adamg - 12/1/17 - 10:12 pm

The MBTA now reports just "minor" delays from a train that was taken out back and shot at Alewife.

Around 7:25 this morning, the MBTA reported a train had died at Alewife. When are those Chinese trains getting here again?

By adamg - 11/15/17 - 4:51 pm

The MBTA's reporting "moderate" delays due to a train that refuses to budge at the Cambridge end of the line.

By adamg - 11/9/17 - 4:56 pm

The MBTA reports "moderate" delays on the Red Line outbound between Harvard and Alewife because of a train that kicked the bucket.

By adamg - 9/5/17 - 5:32 pm

UPDATE, 5:55 p.m. The T has gone to "moderate."

Of course, the signal problems that caused the Red Line to creep this morning, although this time they're at Alewife and, so far at least, the delays are only "minor," the MBTA reports - phrasing that Meri would take issue with:

20+ minutes from S. Sta. And just now at Harvard. Crawling btwn stops. Standing by AGAIN.

By adamg - 7/24/17 - 5:44 pm

"Moderate" delays on the Red Line due to a train with a permanent X across its personnel file, the MBTA reports.
