This time, instead of Rozzie Square or Fallon Field, the area along West Roxbury Parkway near Washington Street bzzt-ed out, around 6:00 p.m. Parts of Beech Street also went out.

Blame some damage to high-voltage wires, NStar says. The company forecast restoration by 9 p.m., although some people saw their lights come back around 8:10.

Another day, another power outage, this time in the area near Fallon Field.

Eric Gahan reports his power went out around 2 a.m. and was still out around 4:30 a.m.

Went out this morning, NStar is promising to fix the latest of its Roslindale failures by 2 p.m.

Recent weeks have seen numerous power outages in or near Roslindale Square.

City Councilor Tim McCarthy says a burned-out power conduit is why Roslindale Square and surrounding areas have had numerous power failures recently. He said NStar is now aware of the problem and that city officials have impressed on the utility the need to do something about it, although he did not have a specific date for a permanent fix.

A manhole on Dorchester Avenue near Bay Street went FOOM into the night. Residents for blocks around had their lights flicker and their electronic devices show their resentment. One resident a couple blocks away reported hearing a loud thud; she thought at first her downstairs neighbor had slammed the door.

Meanwhile, lights went out from Uphams Corner down to the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Quincy Street.

Around 10:18 p.m., people from the Rhode island line to North Chelmsford reported their lights flickered. Around the same time, people in Allston reported "a HUGE explosion" and "a massive flash of light in the sky."

BPD and BFD are investigating a report of a possible explosion at an NStar substation off Alcott Street in Allston.

UPDATE, 10:40 p.m.: BFD found no fire or evidence of explosions or giant, freshly opened cocoons at the substation, so departed.

The last time everybody's lights flickered.

NorthEndWaterfront.com reports an epidemic of non-working street lights on Hanover is spreading to other streets, and that city officials suspect the problem is the wiring can support either street lights or Christmas lights, but not both.

UPDATE: At 9:53 p.m., Joanna Carvalho tweeted her power - and heat - was still out in JP.

NStar is currently estimating 7 p.m. for a fix to power outages in Jamaica Plain, Dorchester and Roslindale, the city reports.

That can't come soon enough for Maura O'Toole in Jamaica Plain:

It's cold and dark being told 7:30 - so power will have been off < 12 hrs! We have been told 930, 1230, 430.

At least along River Street. The lights went out around 6:15 p.m., Sybil Johnson reports. As of 6:55 p.m., NStar reported nearly 1,300 customers without power in Boston.

As of 10 p.m., parts of Roslindale, Hyde Park, Roxbury and Dorchester were without power.

Parts of the western side of South Boston went dark when a manhole on West 1 St. between B and C went kablooie. NStar was unable to provide an estimate for when workers could get down there for a look.

Firefighters responded to 320 W. 2 St., where the power outage stranded a man and his dog in an elevator between the fourth and fifth floors. Tom McGuire reports they were rescued.

From West Roxbury to East Boston, Nstar cables and transformers failed last night, plunging residents into steamy darkness.

"Faulty equipment" sparked an outage in the Centre Street corridor from West Roxbury into Jamaica Plain last night.

On Prescott Street in East Boston, Kathy Bui reports power went out around midnight, finally came back around 5:30 p.m.

The City Council on Wednesday considers a request by Councilor and mayoral candidate Mike Ross for a hearing to grill NStar officials about the Sunday blackout, which he said came "despite assurances of safety upgrades and additional installation of materials to prevent future outages" following last year's transformer explosion and outage.

Ross represents the Back Bay and Fenway, which have been particularly hard hit by the blackouts.
