A group of black and Latino Dorchester and Roxbury resident today blasted city and state officials for doing nothing to stop hundreds of people from across the Northeast congregating for a Carnival party along Talbot Avenue last weekend and said they will do what they have to to stop a similar gathering planned for this weekend. Update, Sept. 22. Boston Police report the victim, Changa Toyloy, 41, died.

Live Boston reports a man was shot on Blue Hill Avenue at Ellington Street around 2:30 a.m., in the middle of what had turned into a large pre-Carnival block party even though Carnival itself had been canceled in May because of Covid-19. Read more.

Marchers want to celebrate the Caribbean in Cambridge

Greg Cook reports organizers of the now canceled Sept. 8 Caribbean parade and festival in Cambridge rallied at City Hall yesterday to demand permit for a scaled back festival on Sept. 28 or 29 somewhere like University Park.

Cambridge Mayor Marc McGovern vowed to help bring carnival back, both this year and going forward.

Cambridge Carnival is organizing a rally and meeting in support of the carnival on Wednesday starting at 6 p.m. at Cambridge City Hall. The city canceled the Sept. 8 carnival out of fears violence in Boston would spill over across the river. Read more.
