CommonWealth Beacon reports on yet another effort by Boston lawmakers to convince the T to change the Hyde Park, Readville and West Roxbury commuter-rail stations to the same zone as the Fairmount one - which could save riders hundreds of dollars a year. But T officials say they're more interested in an overall reduced-fare system it's looking to set-up for low-income riders across the entire commuter-rail network.

Donuts in the ice atop Millennium Park

On her usual walk around Millennium Park this morning, Mary Ellen couldn't help but notice the evidence that somebody had driven up onto the soccer fields at the top of the park and done some donuts:

"I don’t know how bad the field was since hopefully it was frozen," she says, then adds there was also evidence of some karmic retribution: "They did slide right into the fence."

As it was designed to do. Read more.

Empty bread shelves at one supermarket

Mary Ellen headed over to the West Roxbury Star Market this evening and, as you can see, was confronted with some pretty empty bread shelves in advance of Saturday's storm, which in the annals of New England storms, doesn't seem like it'll be a blockbuster or anything, but, you know, it's been like two years now since we've last gotten major snow, so God only knows how bad it'll get.

The Boston City Council voted 10-2-1 today to formally oppose BPS's plans to move the O'Bryant School from its current location on Malcolm X Boulevard in Roxbury to a rebuilt West Roxbury Education Complex on VFW Parkway, saying that location, almost in Dedham, is just too far way for many students and that BPS has failed to really take into account the concerns of O'Bryant students, parents and teachers, let alone possible alternatives.
