Proposed tower at Back Bay train station in Boston

Boston Properties today submitted its plans for redeveloping Back Bay station, centering on a tower that would not look like any other tower in the city.

In a filing with the BRA, the company is proposing "a holistic and transformative transit-oriented redevelopment" for the Back Bay/South End Gateway Project that would include a 26-story office building, 600 residential units in two separate buildings - one 34 stories, the other 28 - and new retail and restaurant space. The company has air rights from the state to build atop the garage, station, train tracks and turnpike. Read more.

Fed up bus passengers moving a car in the Back Bay

Nate Fedor, who watched the whole thing unfold, reports that when a charter bus got stuck trying to turn from Dartmouth Street onto Beacon shortly after 10 a.m. and then just sat there for about 15 minutes, passengers who could wait no longer finally got out of the bus and picked it up and moved it about two feet, just enough for their driver to maneuver the bus onto Beacon.

Not everybody was impressed, at least not by the bus driver. Gerald Burke wrote:

Photo from last week's robbery.

The Eastern Bank branch at 155 Dartmouth St. was held up around 2:50 p.m. by a white man in a gray hoodie, a ball cap and sunglasses. Police suspect it's the same guy who robbed the branch last week because he has very big ears.

As he did last week, the robber presented a note, then grabbed it back when he got money. He did not show a weapon.

Around 6:15 p.m. right at Boylston and Dartmouth. BFD responded quickly to douse the fetid fire, although not before some of the smoke wafted down to the platforms of the Copley T station, worrying some riders.

Fire officials reassured the T that the smoke posed no threat to train service. Of course, this being the Back Bay, the burning trash was special. One Green Line rider reported: "Smelled like incense burning."
