UPDATE, 4/4: Store passed a re-inspection and was allowed to re-open.

A city health inspector today shut the Stop & Shop at 1025 Truman Parkway after wastewater and sewage began coming up through floor drains in the bakery, produce and deli departments and meat and produce storage and preparation areas. Read more.

City Councilor Matt O'Malley (Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury) has had enough of storefronts and apartments that go empty - sometimes for years - in even the swankiest of neighborhoods and wants to begin looking at ways to prod landlords to rent the spaces out that could include "vacancy fees." Vital Vegas reports that when the mega-casino in Everett opens, it will be named the Encore Boston Harbor, rather than than the Wynn Boston Harbor because it turns out that Steve Wynn might have had an even worse problem with women than Mario Batali, whose name also is no longer spoken of in the Prudential Center food court that used to have his name splashed all over. WGBH reports on the contretemps involving an attempt by Patriot Care, which runs a medicinal marijuana dispensary at 21 Milk St. downtown to add recreational pot sales, even though it told downtown residents and city officials looking at its dispensary plans three years ago that it would not seek to sell recreational versions of the stuff.

Patriot Care says it wasn't lying, it just never realized that recreational pot would become legal so fast - an assertion some are finding hard to swallow.
