Wanted for bus spitting

Transit Police report they are looking for a man they say spat in the face of a bus driver "without provocation" at Eutaw and Meridian streets around 5:45 p.m. on April 2.

If he looks familiar, contact detectives at 617-222-1050.

Two of the three owners of a venture aimed at re-opening the oft-shuttered restaurant at 154 Maverick St. are now suing restaurant and building owner John Tyler, alleging that at a minimum he owes them $250,000 for all the work they put into the place, which they never actually opened as a restaurant, plus their initial deposit. WBZ reports a child injured in a six-alarm fire on Meridian Street in East Boston on April 2 has died. A second person was reported dead the day of the fire, the cause of which has yet to be announced.

The driver of an 18-wheeler got wedged but good in the Sumner Tunnel around 1 p.m. today, causing all sorts of delays and bringing all the news copters to video the blockage they couldn't see, because it was in a tunnel. It's the second time in a week or so that that's happened.

Students at the Curtis Guild School on Leyden Street, the Bradley School on Beachview Road and Excel Academy on Bremen Street and Moore Street kept their students inside as police searched for a man with a rifle that a passerby had alerted an officer he'd seen on Leyden near the Guild around 2:25 p.m. Read more.

East Boston Social Centers has set up a fundraising drive for the 30 people who lost their homes in the fire on Meridian and West Eagle streets in East Boston this morning - which also claimed one resident's life.

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded around 5 a.m. to 430 Meridian St. in East Boston for what became a six-alarm fire that killed one resident. Read more.

MassDOT reported at the tail end of the morning commute that one driver learned the hard way his rig was too big for the Sumner Tunnel, wedging it in firmly enough to warrant an alert that the tunnel's left lane was shut for awhile.

The Boston Licensing Board voted today to set a revocation hearing in six months for the liquor license John Tyler holds for a space at 154 Maverick St., but said they are more hopeful this time than the last time they threatened him with revocation, last August, because he has letters of intent from two possible operators that could, finally, keep the place open longer than a couple months. State Sen. Nick Collins (D-1st Suffolk) unleashed a barrage of invective yesterday against plans by the owner of the Quiet Few tavern in East Boston's Jeffries Point to open a similar tavern at 400 Dorchester St. in South Boston's Andrew Square, calling it a potential hellhole catering to the very sort of losers the neighborhood doesn't need - despite testimony from people in Andrew Square they can't wait for it to open. Boston Police report arresting a man on drug charges after finding him and another guy at home inside the Progressive Club, 234 Maverick St. in East Boston, which has been abandoned for awhile now, in fact is slated to be torn down for condos. Read more.
