Cheryl-Anns' in South Brookline, closed since a 2021 fire, is kvelling this morning that it's gotten the final town permit it needs and it will re-open promptly at 7 a.m. on Friday - just in time for the shabbat rush.

A housing advocacy group today sued a series of Boston-area landlords and brokers it says violated state law by refusing to consider prospective tenants who said they had Section 8 or other government housing vouchers. Read more.

Brookline.News reports Brookline will soon raise the price for all its parking meters to $2 an hour - bringing them in line with what parkers have to pay across the line in the Hub. The extra money will go, in part, to fix broken meters, which could mean even more revenue.

One member of the Select Board said the increase will be fairly invisible since people nowadays mostly use an app to pay, which is far more effortless than rummaging around the center console for some spare quarters.

Boston Restaurant Talk reports a California chain called Baby Cafe Kitchen is opening outlets on Brighton Avenue in Allston - in that spot where the laundry place used to be - and on Beacon Street in Brookline.

At 1:45 p.m., the MBTA reported it was rolling out buses to take the place of Riverside trolleys between Reservoir and Kenmore due to a train that kicked the bucket at Brookline Village.

Wanted for armed robbery at TJ Maxx in Brookline

Brookline Police report they are looking for a pair of shoplifters who legally became a pair of armed robbers when one of them "brandished a knife when confronted" at the TJ Maxx store on Harvard Street near the Allston line on Jan. 15.

State Rep. Brookline.News reports on a rezoning proposal approved by Town Meeting last night. The measure would, among other things, allow four-story residential buildings "as of right." The vote comes a week after voters in neighboring and even leafier Newton voted out city councilors who supported more residential development there.
